National charity Barnardo’s move their Oxford base to Airfied House

Barnardo’s is a national charity founded by Thomas John Barnardo in 1866 to care for vulnerable children and young people. As of 2013, it has raised over £200 million and uses the money to run hundreds of local services aimed at helping these same groups. It is the UK’s largest children’s charity, in terms of charitable expenditure.

Here in Oxfordshire, Barnardo’s manages several services for children with disabilities. One of the services provide ‘Short Breaks’ (previously known as ‘respite care’) to families in Abingdon and Whitney both after school hours and in school holidays. These are invaluable for the parents who are then able to continue working, spend time with their other children or simply take a break. The children are given an opportunity to enjoy constructive play sessions in a safe and stimulating environment.

Unfortunately, the funding to this service had been cut significantly and they had to make huge changes including giving up their large office in Bicester. Finding it impossible to work effectively without a base. Barnardo’s approached Clarendon Business Centres at Airfield House as the office is geographically between the two provisions. We were delighted to offer them space to work that would help reduce costs of travel time and mileage.

Michelle Kukielka, Assistant Director Children’s Services at Barnardo’s said:
“We are so grateful and pleased to have moved into our Clarendon office; having such an excellent environment has enabled us to offer essential training to our staff along with the ability to work with effectiveness and ease.”
